Norphans and Christmas - A Time To Give

Thanks to one and all for the overwhelming support that you have shown in this Christmas season in purchasing Falcon gear at our sales events at Byrne's Tavern and Dagwood's.  In addition, we are getting tremendous traffic at our online store, yes our online store at www.ncfalconmall.com.  Please always remember that every dollar we raise goes to support kids.  Norphans is the only North organization where there is no administrative expense which allows us to give all contributions to kids and various North connected charitable organizations.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to each and everyone of you.

Saturday, July 25th is only 10 days away and tickets are going fast.  Please contact Jerry Brindisi for advance tickets at 215-906-8496 or brindinski@aol.com.  Most importantly however is the cause. Our cause and your cause.  We help kids, bottom line.  Every cent that we raise will support kids, primarily educational grants for those looking to stay in Catholic schools in the area, primarily the City. We are one of only two groups (NC Alumni Association) that raises money and sells gear to support its causes.  Don't miss out and make a difference.

Gone Five Years But Never Forgotten

It's coming up on 5 years since The Northeast Catholic High School For Boys closed it's doors.  As such, we thought it would be appropriate to include a post from the now defunct Falcon's Nest Blog from 2010, which was written by Mike Ferris '82 and Tom Crossett '75.  This is being reposted here with their permission, as well as the permission of the entire former staff at The Falcon's Nest.

Note:  Although the basis for this article is true, some of the predictions about the future may not have played out exactly how it was speculated back in 2010.

As posted on TheFalconNest.com on April 27, 2010.....

By Mike Ferris, class of 1982
Also contributing to this column was Tom Crossett, class of 1975

A funny thing happened on the way to transitioning North Catholic into a Cristo Rey network school. You see, the feasibility study was going along just fine. The archdiocese’s Office of Catholic Education (OCE) had orally given its blessing (remember this!), businesses were lined up, the alumni association was backing the plan, an existing student base was in place, money was being raised, and many people were on board for this new venture. The only two things that needed to be done were to secure a building, and have a religious order take “ownership” of the building and school. The former is a requirement of any school, but the latter is a requirement of the Cristo Rey board. While Cristo Rey is a Jesuit application, the Jesuits were open to any order to lend a hand. The final pieces to this puzzle seemed like slam dunks, right? Not so fast.

Norphan's Day at Dagwoods Huge Success: Thank You

Dagwood's Tavern in NE Philadelphia hosted a North Catholic/Norphan's Day yesterday, February 28th. The proceeds from the event are to continue to fund the Norphan's Scholarship Fund.  The Norphan's if you don't know look to help kids in the City to attend Archdiocesan high schools.  For the past three years, we have helped boys and girls continue their education.

A couple hundred Falcons and friends of Falcons gathered at Dagwoods.  The commarderie, the friendship, the stories but most importantly, the cause was honored at this event.  We just wanted to thank everyone who was there and reached into their pockets to help us because all we do is to help kids.

Pass the word!

Never Forget, Never Forgive!
