Dagwood's Pub at the corner of Torresdale and Linden Avenues will host it's 2nd Annual North Catholic Day, on Saturday, March 1, 2014, from 3 PM until 8 PM. Tips and donations will go to support the Norphan's Fund which primarily supports educational needs of families in need for Archdiocesan high schools. There will celebrity bartenders to reminisce with and plenty of North chatter.

Norphan Soccer Great Goes Pro

From Roman Catholic Head Soccer Coach, Ray DeStephanis:

Former North Catholic and LaSalle great John McCarthy agreed professional terms today with the Rochester Rhinos of the USL. McCarthy led the Falcons of North Catholic to the PCL and Division 12 championships in 2008 and garnered numerous awards and records for 4 years for the Explorers including several NCAA appearances. Road trips are in the works. Congrats to the entire McCarthy Clan and extended family!

Editor's Trivia Note:  In addition to his many successes on the soccer field, John also scored the final point for the North Catholic Football team in a stunning 28-22 win over Frankford in the exciting finale of this legendary series.  John kicked the PAT with 13 seconds remaining to give the Falcons a 28-22 lead and the win.

North Soccer Alumni to Honor 1977 Team at Hall of Fame Affair (March 30th @ Romano's)

The NCSA, working to recognize not just great individual soccer talent but also team success has decided to honor the 1977 team.  The roster was small in comparison, 16 players.  Today, we roster over 20 players to show you where the game has gone.

Of these 16 players, 5 of these players are in the Hall of Fame as individual players. The record of the squad was 13 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties, culminating in a 1-0 city championship over Lincoln.  The team had no less than 9 Division 1 players.  The team scored 49 goals and let in a miserly 14.  Two member of this squad won 3 PCL and City Championships while 7 of them won 2!

Come honor the boys at the celebration on 3/30 @ Romano's Caterers. For more information go to www.northcatholicsoccer.com

NORPHANS PHILANTHROPY CONTINUES

The week of January 26th was a big week for Norphans as the organization continues its support for kids to continue their Catholic education. The few fund raisers that we operate are for the sole purpose of helping boys and girls continue their educational needs through the Archdiocese system.  We created the Ed White Memorial Scholarship Fund for this exact purpose.  Additionally, we selectively support other “need” organizations that support societal programs close to our hearts and minds.

Norphans Donate to Philly FOP

On January 31, 2014, the Norphans made our first "official" donation to the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police (See photo below).  Norphan rep, Mike McBride presented a $3,000 check to Bill Hunter '79 (NC wrestling legend) and reps from the FOP, Mike Trask '89 (Financial Secretary) and John Ruane CD '91 (Treasurer).  In the coming weeks, additional funds will be dispersed. Each donation will be documented on the "Charities" page of this blog.
